An important note regarding Lye: Sodium Hydroxide (lye) is a chemical used in the soap-making process. However, used in soap making it completely burns up in the process and there is none left in the final soap product. Once the chemical reaction of making soap (saponification) is complete, the lye and oil molecules have combined and chemically changed into soap.
